The Atari Lynx (1989) was the first handheld with a colour screen, a backlit one, designed by the people behind the Amiga. Its hardware scales sprites, and the screen flips so left-handed players can turn it round.
It was big and ate six AA batteries in a few hours, and it sold far less than the Game Boy. Its games include California Games, Chip's Challenge, Blue Lightning, Klax and Gates of Zendocon.
